Engine 23, Calgary Public Library’s early learning fire truck, is back in action at Fish Creek Library and ready to take a whole new crew of young Calgarians on a journey of early literacy. The decommissioned pumper truck is the centrepiece of the newly-renovated Fish Creek Library’s Early Learning Centre, and will support building literacy and fundamental learning skills for children from across the city.

We extend our gratitude to all Library Foundation donors and supporters who helped get a Ladder Up on Literacy. In particular, we thank Firehouse Subs, Troy Life & Fire Safety, the Walker Family, DRB Mechanical, Oxford Properties and Southcentre Mall, and everyone who bought a brick—more than 400 and counting!—in support of Engine 23.

Bricks purchased prior to April 1 are now on display at Fish Creek Library, with additional bricks forming part of a future install. To find your brick’s place in the Engine 23 community space, use this tool.
