Prototype: Skyview
A brand-new digital-first Library space
Prototype: Skyview is a temporary facility operated by Calgary Public Library, with services and spaces designed to bring much-needed Library services to residents in the Skyview Ranch catchment area while a new full-service Library location is designed and constructed. Prototype: Skyview is an innovation playground, focused on delivering on identified needs for technology, social connection, and personal enrichment in the community.
As the first facility of its kind for the Library, Prototype: Skyview will further develop the Library’s understanding of the needs in the community and provide an opportunity to co-create and innovate on new and enhanced services. Findings and experiences will support the design of the future full-service
location. Prototype Skyview will provide an opportunity to research and pilot new technology solutions in a public setting, train frontline staff on best practices in supporting patrons with technology, and help advance the Library’s newcomer and digital equity efforts.
Prototype: Skyview is a brand-new service delivery model for Calgary Public Library. It is a significant step in enhancing digital equity and the newcomer settlement and integration experience in a community whose growth is currently outpacing its ability to meet needs. Donor support ensures that Prototype: Skyview is equipped to meet these challenges until a full-service Library location can open.
