Free Period

Have you heard of the term “Period Poverty?” It refers to an inability to access menstrual products, which impacts the health and dignity of people who menstruate, especially vulnerable persons and youth. Not having access to period products can impact Calgarians in the classroom, the workplace, and in everyday life.

The Free. Period. initiative provides free pads and tampons to anyone who needs them by making them available in Library washrooms—with no stigma or judgment. Menstrual products are available at Library locations across Calgary.

Here is how your gift can help:

  • $31.50 fills a dispenser with one day’s worth of period products. The Library’s Free. Period. initiative provides free pads and tampons to anyone who needs them.
  • $220.50 fills a dispenser with one week’s worth of period products. In close proximity to schools, workplaces, community centres and shelters, libraries are accessible across the city and welcoming to all.
  • $2,500 supports the installation, supplies, and management of one Free. Period. dispenser for one year.
