Calgary’s Story, presented by Walt and Irene DeBoni, is a feature area located on the fourth level of the Central Library that brings Calgary’s and Southern Alberta’s history and heritage to life. Through collections, programs and a digital kiosk, visitors will be able to dive into some of the many stories from Calgary’s past, explore their family history and see photographs of what Calgary looked like at the turn of the century.
The DeBoni’s believe that libraries provide a window to the world. Although the small town Walt grew up in didn’t have a library, his provincial library fulfilled his desires for reading, and Irene’s hometown library introduced her to the world of literature.
As young parents, Walt and Irene made frequent use of the Southwood Library and the Bookmobile, creating important memories for their sons. The Library’s plans for the future and it’s role as an accessible community resource at the inspiration for the DeBoni’s donation.
