My First Bookshelf

“The program is amazing. My son looks forward to his new book every month. We read it together right away.”
—Rania, parent of MFB participant

Book ownership is powerful. How many books do you have in your home? Research shows that having even 20 books at home can foster a lifelong love of reading. But sadly, many children in our community are growing up without any books on their shelves. Children enrolled in the My First Bookshelf program receive one free book each month from birth to age five, helping them build their very own home bookshelves with books that are theirs to keep forever! Next year, the Library hopes to welcome 1,000 more children to the program. This will not be possible without donor funding.

Here is how your gift can help:

  • $6.90 can put a new book in the hands of a child. Consider making this a monthly gift to provide a full shelf of books!
  • $82.80 can support a child in the My First Bookshelf program for a full year.
  • $414 can support a child’s participation in My First Bookshelf from birth to age five. When they graduate from the program and start kindergarten, they will have 60 books on their shelf!
