Calgary, AB – The Calgary Public Library is delighted to announce that the doors of its 21st community Library, the Seton Library at the Brookfield Residential YMCA, are now open to the public.

Seton Library will be the third largest community library in Calgary; a welcome free community space and new service to an area that has consistently outpaced average growth rates seen in the rest of the city. The 25,000 square foot Library includes a Teen Centre, study space, bookable meeting rooms and auditorium, automated Chromebook lending lockers, and countless free programs and services.

“We are thrilled to be opening a new library in this growing community that is currently underserved,” says Bill Ptacek, CEO of the Calgary Public Library. “We’ve put a lot of thought into the services and programs that will meet the evolving needs of this community, and I would encourage our new neighbours to pay us a visit and sign up for their free Library card. I would specifically encourage the young families that call Seton and Mahogany home to visit and discover all the Library can offer you. This Library will make a difference to your family and this community.”

With more than 89,000 kids under the age of five in Calgary, the demographics of the city demand a significant investment in high quality early learning. As such, the Calgary Public Library Foundation is excited to launch the Hopewell Early Learning Centre in the Seton Library.

As Calgary’s 12th Early Learning Centre, the Hopewell Early Learning Centre will empower thousands of young children living in the southeast quadrant of the city through enriching resources and ample opportunities to maximize their learning potential. This includes a decommissioned Alouette III helicopter, provided through partnership with the Hangar Flight Museum, which children will have the unique opportunity to explore.

“Hopewell Residential is thrilled to partner with the Calgary Public Library on such an exciting and important addition to southeast Calgary,” says Scott Hamilton, Director, Marketing and Customer Experience for Hopewell Residential. “Our vision is to create the spaces and places where people love to live, and part of that means supporting the communities in which we work and live. This partnership allows us to create a gathering space for the thousands of families in south Calgary, and fosters a sense of community, a love for learning and a stronger connection to the community.”

Calgarians are invited to take part in the official opening celebrations on Saturday, January 19 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. They will have the chance to explore the spaces at Seton Library, including the Hopewell Early Learning Centre, participate in free crafts and activities, win door prizes and sit in on a special family storytime.
